Electrical discharge machining, also known as spark machining or wire erosion, is an extremely accurate metal fabrication technique. Sparks are generated by an electric discharge, and each spark removes a tiny amount of metal through melting and evaporation. The spark wire varies in size but is always less than 1 micron in diameter, and since the wire is in constant motion during the EDM process, EDM causes less wear and tear on the cutting medium than other abrasion and machining processes.

There are a number of advantages to using EDM. Above all, the technique ensures a high degree of accuracy. It also enables us to produce workpieces in metals with difficult or “impossible” contours. What’s more, we can machine conductive materials, regardless of hardness – for instance, hard metals or hardened workpieces – to an accuracy of 0.001 mm. This results in highly accurate and uniform workpieces.
